Urth Cafe
The line out the door here is telling of how good this place is. It is a no frills kinda place that honestly sold me my first visit when I tried their pumpkin pie with a gingersnap crust. It is the best pumpkin pie I have ever had. Bible. If I am here for breakfast or brunch, I always go with the eggs salmone - toasted sprouted ancient grain bread, lemon mascarpone, fresh avocado, natural smoked salmon and wild arugula, topped with soft poached eggs, chopped salsa verde and fresh dill. The pizzas are definitely worth trying if you here for lunch or dinner. I am a sucker for a soft pillowy crust with burnt bubbles - and the Urth Cafe pizzas deliver on that. My personal favorites are the pizza catona with tomatoes, mozzarella, burrata cheese, prosciutto di parma, basil and arugula when I am craving burrata, and the pizza primavera is my other favorite and is a veggie lovers’ pizza dream. It’s got pesto marinated asparagus, potatoes, yellow squash, sugar plum tomatoes, kalamata olives and treviso lettuce baked on a vegan crust with vegan monterey jack cheese and topped with grilled artichoke hearts, basil flower and peperonata sauce. If I want a meal not on toast or a pizza crust, i go with the caravan kale salad with organic tuscan kale, organic red quinoa, persian cucumbers, heirloom tomatoes, roasted yams, red onion, fresh mint tossed in a housemade pomegranate vinaigrette, topped with ricotta salata cheese (and ask for it without the pita chips). But again - do not leave without getting a slice of the pumpkin pie. The best part - the pie is available year around.
They have another location in Orange, CA.
